Step 1: True Budget (Not Just DP)
Rule: car price < 50% annual income, cicilan <25% monthly income. Add: insurance 2-3%/year, BBM/listrik Rp 1-1.5jt/mo, service Rp 500k-1.5jt/mo, parking. Example: Rp 300jt car = Rp 7-8jt/mo all-in.
Step 2: Needs Over Wants
Family 4 + barang? SUV 7-seat. Daily 20km macet? Hybrid/EV + small size. Hobby? Classic or tuning base. List must-haves vs nice-to-haves.
Step 3: Shortlist 3, Not 10
After filter, test drive same route: toll, macet, U-turn, parking. Rate: visibility, seat comfort 30min, noise, AC coldness (Indonesia must!). Bring family.
Step 4: Inspection (Used Must)
35-point check: flood lines under carpet, frame rust, engine cold start smoke, OBD scan, service book. Pay Rp 500k inspector — saves Rp 20jt hidden repair.

Never sign same day. Sleep, recalculate, feel. Right car feels calm next morning, not anxious.
